From 5 to 13 March, the last eight teams in the final edition of the current format of the UEFA Champions League will be decided.

The round of 16 teams have all returned to their various leagues in the meantime but they will be thinking of the second legs in their clashes.

First, they have to scale their individual hurdles, then they will have to prepare for the other teams.

This season’s tournament has been described as one of the most open in recent times. Predicting will not be as straightforward but we will attempt it in the following sections.

Round of 16 first leg review

FC København vs Manchester City (1 – 3)

The current holders of the trophy dominated the game from start to finish and ran out with a big advantage.

The second leg will be played at the Etihad where they hold all the advantage. You can get Manchester City vs FC København tickets on Seatsnet.com as the ones on the official websites of each club will be sold out already.

Red Bull Leipzig vs Real Madrid (1 – 1)

The outcome of this match was expected. The plot twist, however, is how difficult it was for Los Blancos to come away with the win.

It took a moment of brilliance from fringe player Brahim Diaz, who, in the most Messi-esque of ways, beat three Leipzig markers to curve a shot into the bottom right corner in the 48th minute.

The 14-time winners had to defend for large spells of the game which gives Die Roten Bullen confidence going to the Santiago Bernabeu on 5 March.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Real Sociedad (2 – 0)

After playing a brilliant first half, Sociedad dropped the ball and Kylian Mbappe pounced. That turned the game around in favour of the Parisiens, who had been chasing the game in front of their home fans until the 25-year-old scored.

Bradley Barcola got the second goal to give PSG the advantage going into the second leg at the Anoeta. However, PSG could find that Sociedad is a lot different than Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Mbappe is a man on a mission, however. This could make all the difference. Real Sociedad vs PSG tickets are available on seatsnet.com.

Lazio vs Bayern Munich (1 – 0)

This is the first game that turned out differently than expected.

Lazio’s defensive organization was too much for Thomas Tuchel’s team to handle. Despite having the most possession, Bayern were unable to muster any shots on target against Lazio, who tested Manuel Neuer four times.

A 69th-minute penalty goal from their talismanic Ciro Immobile would sink the Germans, who will be huffing and puffing right from the start at their meet on 5 March.

Tickets to the Bayern Munich vs Lazio game are selling out fast on seatsnet.com and are already sold out on both clubs’ websites.

PSV Eindhoven vs Borussia Dortmund (1 – 1)

This was one of the harder games to predict from the first leg of the round of 16 and still remains so.

Dortmund were a bit more conservative being the visitors but they went ahead early. PSV equalized in the end and now will carry a fresh slate to the Westfalenstadion on 13 March.

Inter vs Atlético de Madrid (1 – 0)

This was another game that was difficult to predict. However, it turned out to be one of the more interesting games in the first leg of the 2023/24 UCL round of 16 clashes.

Last season’s finalists, Inter, took the game to Atléti from the start. The Spanish side were happy to absorb pressure and counterattack. In the end, though, they finished with zero shots on target but were able to defend well enough to concede just one goal.

FC Porto vs Arsenal (1 – 0)

Going into the game, pundits had mixed opinions.

This was Arsenal’s first UCL knockout game since 2017. Prior to that 2017 exit, they had lost four straight knockout games. However, the Gunners were firing on all cylinders on the domestic front.

History prevailed as the inexperienced Arsenal team were unable to fully withstand the pressure of a Champions League knockout night to concede a late goal to Porto. Luckily for them, it is only a one-goal deficit, which they will have the opportunity to overturn at the Emirates to prevent a sixth straight knockout loss.

Arsenal vs Porto tickets are available on seatsnet.com.

Napoli vs Barcelona (1 – 1)

Two of the world’s best strikers were on display as Napoli hosted Barcelona on 21 February.

Both needed just a chance to score but Barcelona will count themselves unlucky to have let Victor Osimhen have a shot at goal in the first place.

“The Maradona derby” as it is fondly called in some circles, was dominated by the five-time winners of the competition up until Robert Lewandowski’s 60th-minute goal. They stepped off the gas after that and Osimhen scored with his first touch inside the Barcelona box.

The return leg at Montjuic will be amazing to witness. Grab your tickets from seatsnet.com where you will find trusted ticket resellers.
